Long Haired Chihuahuas
Long Hair Chihuahuas are the most beautiful little creatures I have ever seen. Before I came to America, I had never seen a Chihuahua, either a short-haired one or a long-haired one. When I started to volunteer at the shelter, there was this little short-haired Chihuahua that needed a lot of help to get well again, so I stepped in. That was in 2015; we named that 3 1/2-pound Chihuahua Pi, the small number that is so important. This little Chihuahua stole my heart. And, of course, she became a foster failure (I adopted instead of fostering). She went everywhere with me, even to visit Germany.
Rescuing A Chihuahua
That little Chihuahua had taken my heart by storm. Rehabilitation was progressing well, she was getting healthy, and things were looking better. Then she suffered her first stroke one and a half years into our time with her. Sadly, that left her blind. So we decided to get a little friend for her. But fate wouldn’t have it that way, and before the new puppy arrived, Pi had several more strokes, each one worse than the last. Pi suffered a fatal stroke and passed away. The worst thing about this whole incident is that all of this could have been prevented if the breeder had done a better job of breeding.
My First Long Haired Chihuahua
My first long-haired Chihuahua was and still is my big love. I purchased her from a breeder online to be a companion for Pi so she would have somebody to follow after when she lost her eyesight, but that didn’t happen. I named this new tiny little puppy Bibi; she weighed just one pound when she was three months old. She became my world, and everything I did, I did with her. For almost three years, with Bibi by my side, I studied Chihuahua health because of the many issues they have. She had the most loving personality.
The Personality of the Long-Haired Chihuahua
The Chihuahuas are known for having one of the biggest personalities in the dog world, and several different sources describe them as bold, loyal, alert, and smart. Their temperament is shaped by both genetics and environment, which is why different Chihuahuas can seem dramatically different from one another. But that really has nothing to do with the Chihuahua, and everything to do with how he was raised. Their consistent traits across both Short and the Long-Haired Chihuahuas are: lively and bold, highly alert, deeply loyal, intelligent, quick to learn, expressive, and emotional.
What Sets The Long Haired Chihuahuas Apart From Others
I discovered that being small is not the only thing that sets the Long Haired Chihuahua apart from other dogs. Other “toy” sized dogs act a lot like the larger members of their breed, but with added genetic or behavioral defects bred in the quest for smaller size. But Long Haired Chihuahuas have been small for centuries, there’s no need to breed them smaller. They were bred to be watchful, circumspect members of a human family unit. They act a lot more like humans than other dogs, most preferring human companionship, even over other dogs. The Long Haired Chihuahuas love their humans and accept human love wholeheartedly.
My Animals Including 2 Long Haired Chihuahuas
We moved to Arizona in late 2018. Due to the fact that there are so many Chihuahuas with health problems, we embarked on a mission to study all about Long Haired Chihuahuas. We started really reading up on Chihuahuas; their history, their common ailments and afflictions, and their behavior. We were surprised to find how many supposedly reputable breeders really didn’t know as much about the breed as we thought they should. So, for the last 4 1/2 years I’ve been attending a school for Elite Breeders. I’ve been an elite breeder ever since and proud of it. The puppies I breed have the best chances to live a long healthy life.
The Reason I Breed Long Haired Chihuahuas
The reason I breed the best, most beautiful and healthy Long Haired Chihuahuas is so that other people can experience the joy of owning such a great little dog. We strive to ensure that our puppies are as healthy as possible, so that nobody should feel the pain of knowing that their dog suffers. But even more especially so the puppies themselves can live the fullest, happiest, healthiest lives possible! We use the knowledge and the tools we’ve learned to achieve those goals. We start with DNA and OFA health tests.
Our Breeding Line
We have contacted breeders all over America searching for the best, most beautiful, and genetically diverse breeding dogs we can get, focussing on Long Coats, with a secondary consideration of merle genes. They are all different in coloration, all beautiful, and all well behaved. They are genetically tested, socialized, and fed the best diet we can give them. It has taken a few years to get here, but we now have three young AKC mama dogs and an AKC stud, and can soon begin offering the finest Long Haired Chihuahua puppies available in America.
