About Chihuahuas and their Beautiful Long Hair
The Chihuahuas Changed My Life
From the moment I brought home my very first Chihuahua, my life changed in ways I could never have imagined. It all started with that sick little pup that needed a lot of help to get better. When I brought her home I was immediately smitten by her lovely demeanor, and the cut little ways she had about herself. I wanted to do everything in my power to help her get better, and started looking up what is best for her and how to go about it. So I did research. After all these years, studying them, I decided to be a Breeder and put all that knowledge to good use and race the most healthiest Chihuahua Puppies possible.
I Breed Long Haired Chihuahuas, and I’ll Tell You Why:
I really love the Long Haired Chihuahuas. When the Puppies are first born, their coats are very short and the colors are strong, but as the they get older, the colors tend to fade as the baby fur starts to grow. Once the Puppies reach eight weeks of age, they look like a teddybear with thick fluffy and soft fur. By the time the Long Haired Chihuahuas, reach six month their legs have grown much longer, and their hair has thinned to look wispy and bare. At a full year, the Puppies have filled out and their hair has caught back up. The hair on their bellies, hocks, tail, and around their ears, has grown into graceful feathering. More About the Long Hair from the Chihuahuas
The long fur is very beautiful on their tiny frames. Different dogs have different lengths of fur, and each dog’s hair length varies, depending on where it is on its body. The different lengths of hair give greater coat texture over their shoulders and backs, and makes their colors richer. Their tails are like a flowing plume of waving hair arching over their backs, and wave like a fluttering flag when they walk or run! They have a ruff about their necks like a big fur stole adding elegance to their alert carriage. Their ears have long fringes of hair flaring out, like soft wings framing their short-haired faces. Feathering on their bellies and legs complete the adorable fluffiness of the Long Haired Chihuahuas.
The Long Haired Chihuahuas and the Short Haired Chihuahuas
There is no difference between the two Chihuahua types physically. One simply has a longer coat. Their health and body is the same. The Long Haired requires more care for the long hair and need regular grooming , once a day if possible. At times the fur around the buttocks and between the toes needs to be trimmed to keep things from sticking to those areas and making them uncomfortable. However, that only happens when the stool is too soft (and there are lots of things you can do to prevent that fom happening). Other than that it just comes down to your preference of which you feel looks best: Short or Long Haired.
The Difference in the Colors
There are a lot of differences in the colors. From the majestic shiny black, to red, to fawn, to blue, and even silvery gray, any color found in any other breed of dog can be found in the tiny Chihuahuas. The colors show up in practically any combination as well. There are brindles, sables, tricolors , two-toned, and mono-colored like black, brown, and red. ( There are too many combinations too mention). All-white are the rarest but blues are also highly prized. We talk more about colors on one of our other pages.
The Size of the Chihuahua Varies.
While it is common knowledge that Chihuahuas are the smallest breed of dogs, it’s hard to imagine how small they really are. When our puppies are born, they weigh just around 3.5 ounces, which is super small. To get a feel for the weight, that’s the same as two medium chicken eggs. Even most newborn kittens are larger. Fully grown they are usually between 3 pounds & 6 pounds. Slightly larger ones are not uncommon, but people seem to be drawn more to the smaller size..
They’re Undeniable Power to Becharm You
While the small size of the breed may be the initial draw for a potential owner (needing less space, less food, being more portable), it is their personalities that draw most of us to them. Their outsized personalities allow them to punch ‘way above their weight emotionally.
How We Raise Our Chihuahuas
At this kennel our most concerned is with the health and happiness of our dogs. We prepare our puppies for the lives ahead to ensure their success. We begin with training using training pads; socialization; crate training; feeding routines; and not to bark constantly. And they are given their first immunizations and a health check by a veterinarian . All of our dogs run and play together, and are with the family. They are also trained, to be left alone at times, in their crates, so they get used to that and do not suffer separation anxiety. This all means that you can be sure that you are receiving exactly what you expect: a healthy, beautiful, well-behaved companion.
